Liverpool Mozart Orchestra

A major thrill of my recent Liverpool stay was hearing the performance of my orchestra piece Planet in the wonderful acoustic of Tung Auditorium, which is part of Liverpool University's Yoko Ono Lennon Centre. It's one of several philanthropic gifts by Ms Ono Lennon to the University, and I think a most superior and stylish commemoration of the Beatles' artistic legacy in their native city. I don't think Yoko (now aged 92) has yet visited, but I like to imagine she'd approve of its beautiful shape and vibe.

I was delighted by the playing of the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra under their conductor Robin Wallington. LMO modestly describe themselves as an "amateur orchestra" but the group includes former professionals, graduate performers in other musical jobs, and more very fine players in entirely other occupations. The concert closed with an exciting account of Beethoven's 7th Symphony, in which (thanks to the hall's clear sound, as well as to thoroughly accurate playing) I heard several interesting details I've never noticed before.
