My 2025 musical travels kick off this week with a visit to Hay-on-Wye. On Sunday 12th January (3pm at St Mary's Church) Hay Music are presenting a concert by the excellent Marsyas Trio plus soprano Lotte Betts-Dean. My French-African cycle Nuits d'Afrique is on the bill, plus an actual world premiere by Michael Finnissy, who will also be there; I believe the programme starts with a short conversation between us and the performers.
As I've ascertained while making my my travel plans, Hay is quite a long way from other population centres, and so, hats off to Hay Music. They are doing a particularly great job in bringing interesting musical events, and attached musicians, to their rural doorstep.
