Corvus Consort

I've been catching up on this autumn's choral releases. It's amazing how much new choral music comes out on commercial recordings (compared with, say, orchestral music) making it a lively and rewarding field for composers.

Freddie Crowley and the sopranos and altos of Corvus Consort have issued a collection called Welcome Joy. They probably share my view that we still don't have enough music for women's voices; this collection is threaded through with short pieces by Gustav Holst. Bless him for his contributions to women's music and education.

My own piece We sekyn here rest is also included, along with two others (by Hilary Campbell and Gemma McGregor) written for a collection based on the writings of Dame Julian of Norwich premiered by the brilliant choir of Godolphin School under their then conductor Olivia Sparkhall, who also appears on the disc as a composer.

PICTURED- some of the fabulous wall paintings in Westminster Abbey' s Chapter House which (errr?) I guess are very roughly contemporary to Dame Julian, mid/late 14th century.
